Introduction
To have been to the North Pole is a dream. Not for everyone, but for those of us who have been brought up with the deeds of Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen and Robert Peary, and who have felt the same desire to explore. The pack ice, the cold and the light were the same then as now. As Amundsen, André and Byrd did, also we will use Svalbard as our springboard to reach the top of the world.
This trip is for those who wish to experience the whole range of sensations that fill a ski journey to the North Pole. The number of days spent skiing on the ice will be 10, and everyone will haul their own sledge of personal gear together with their share of the expedition equipment. Each night will be spent in tents and everyone will help with the work necessary to complete the expedition. One of our aims for the trip is to give others the chance to encounter the extraordinary and dramatic scenery of the far north, and we will have time enough to get the genuine feel of the Arctic Ocean. It also provides a unique opportunity to learn the skills required for outdoor trips in "winter conditions". In terms of equipment, preparation and ice conditions, this trip will, in principle, be no different to a full-scale polar expedition
