In the Footsteps of Nansen was awarded 1st price in the category Adventure Travel at Banff Mountain Book Festival 2009.

Patagonia November 2009

The plan is to cross the northern Patagonian icecap. We travel to Punta Arenas in Chile 02nd of November, and from there continued on to Puerto Montt to finalize equipment etc.

From Puerto Montt we take a boat to Laguna San Rafael, where the actual trip begins. From the bottom of the San Rafael glacier we ascent 1000 metres up to the plateau. From here we ski across the ice cap and down to Fjord Steffen. Well down at the coast again we will be brought by boat to the small village of Tortel. Tortel got road connection a few years ago, and the plan is to drive to Balmaceda, where there is a flight connections to Santiago. The trip will take approximately one month, totally.

This trip is primarily a test ride to checkout route, logistics and conditions. It will be possible to book this trip for next season, in November 2010.

The North Pole 2009

In this year's season at the North Pole, Borge Ousland was guiding three different groups. The three day trip was dropped of 10 km from the North Pole. Even with -33°C and a brisk breeze straight in their faces they quickly reached the goal. While they waited for transportation back to Barneo they became "guests" in a wedding for a couple who got married at the North Pole. When the Last Degree trip started it was -30°C and the wind was blowing 10 m/sec. The wind led to ice drift up to 7-800 meters per hour, but fortunately in the right direction. The North Pole was reached after only four days, and was celebrated with a gourmet dinner.

China Travel Channel's reality series Around the World - Braving the South and North Pole brought two of initially 12 Chinese challengers to the ultimate destination of their dreams, in the company of Borge Ousland across the Arctic ice sheet to the North Pole arriving April 22nd. Feng Yili and Wen Xu had mastered the challenges enountered in  the Alashan desert in Inner Mongolia, in the Swiss Alps, in the sami areas of Norway's northernmost county Finnmark and on Svalbard, before venturing on skis to the Pole. The series is featured on China Travel Channel in May and June.
